My New Life
When I was 13 years old, I was living in Guanajuato, Mexico, but one night my dad called my mom to let her know that we were coming to the United States. My sister and I could get better opportunities to go to school and learn how to speak English, which was our first goal. Before my dad called my mom, he got a job. My mom told us the next day, and I remember that I told her that I wasn’t coming here because all my family was in Mexico. She told me that we had to go because my dad and she wanted us to get good jobs in the future.
After a week, it was time to come here. My mom told me to get all the things that I needed because it was time to go. I was sad because all my family and friends were in Mexico. I remember that I was crying because I didn’t want to come, but she told me that it was time to make changes. It was 11:00pm when my grandfather took us to Guadalajara to board a plane. I remember that I was scared because I had never boarded a plane before.
The airplanes were big, and they were making a strange sound. When I went inside the plane, it was with a lot of seats but not a lot of people when I seat down; it was comfortable and, I took a nap because I didn’t want to feel anything.
When I woke up, we were almost in Los Angeles. I wasn’t happy because I was thinking about all my family and friends. When we were walking in the airport, we got lost. It was a big airport. My mom, my sister, and I were trying to find help to get to our next plane. Finally, someone going to the same place we were told us that he could help us. We went to get something to eat and something to drink. For the next 3 hours, we sat in the airport, waiting for the next plane. It was like 12:00pm when we got on the plane.
When we were in Boise, my dad was already waiting for us. We walked into the parking lot, put all of our things inside of the car and, my dad drove. We were watching the city. My mom said that it was a really nice place, and I was saying the same thing in my mind. We were on the freeway when my sister told to my dad that she was hungry. He stopped at a Burger King. He got the food for us, and we ate, then went to Walmart to get groceries. When we got home, I looked at my mom and asked her, “Is this our house?” She told me, “yes. It is”. “Two weeks passed and I told her, mom I want to go back to Mexico. I don’t like this place.” She told me, No. You can’t go back. you have to go to school and learn how to speak English. When I came to school, it was the last day, so I just came back in August.
All summer, I was working with my dad to get money so I could buy some shoes and clothes. August came and I was getting nervous because I was going to attend a new school, but when I came on the first day, it was amazing. I was talking with new people and making new friends. I realized that I like here.
To start with I had to choose an story about my life, and chose a happy experience, next I had to made a rough draft that covered a lot and realized that I would need to cut some since we were allowed for only two pages.
2. What qualifies this paper as a narrative? What are the requirements for this genre and how did you meet them?
The paper has dialogue, show don’t tell, and his imagery. It tell of an actual event
3. What is one part of your story that you think turned out really well? What do you like about that part? The part when my dad called my mom and he tells her that we were coming to the United States. It has the most meaning.
